Between working 8 days a week and 48 hours a day, I have to step back and take some time by taking advantage of our lease expiring at the end of the year.  A huge thank you to Sal Pizarro for writing a lovely summary on this past Sunday Mercury News.

As as artist I get the cool opportunity to be on the inside scoop of secret gift giving.  Meeting with clients to collaborate surprise painting for their spouse, best friend, family member or colleague.

In these times that we live in, those traditional gifts of the china or fine silver flatware registry of 10, 20 and 30+ years ago was such a formal item to register at your local department store and sometime we ponder on what would be the ideal gift to give. A gift that will not only tell a story, but will also last a lifetime.

Over the last five years, I have worked on paintings that are customized to reflect the newlywed couple or the couple that is celebrating their anniversary. The birth of a child is a celebratory event and something to add color and brighten to the nursery had become a main staple in decorating and starting that newborns art collection.

Gifting artwork is unique and personal. The registry concept is very similar to as if you were purchasing a crystal glass set or China place setting for the newlyweds. The group of people ordering the artwork has a budget that they are equally comfortable with and they contribute to cost of the painting.

Eclectic Soul

One of the questions you might be asking yourself is “what if the couple does not like the style of art?’  Well, that is the part that makes this really easy, if you know your friends well enough, then you know the style of artwork that they collect currently. These are clients that approach me about my artwork and know that I create customized paintings.

Often times, the wedding party and friends of the couple are aware that they like my artwork because I had designed the wedding invitation artwork for the bride and groom to be. They might take the theme of the invitation to work with me on a painting that will compliment the invite to get the registry process started.

Pop Celebration

This idea and concept is especially popular with folks who are on their second or third marriage. Because they already have the blenders, silver vases and small kitchen appliances, they typically don’t want any gifts.  But you know as well as I do, it’s rather awkward to show up to the reception empty handed. This helps alleviate that void and can fill it with a special gift that will personally give back for years.

First time marriages love this idea because they want to start collecting artwork, but may not be in their starting out budget but still need color on their walls.

Because I love technology, this process can be done for anyone around the world, they proceed can be discussed and facilitated by phone and email. So easy!

I feel that when there is an chance to volunteer or give back to the community, it’s a soulful experience.

In addition to running my art business and retail gallery, I volunteer as a board member and President to the Downtown Campbell Business Association (DCBA), where I manage a number of programs and events such as the Third Friday Artwalk and our popular Winewalk.
I am also a (new) board member for the Silicon Valley Fireflies which is an organization of glass makers in the Bay Area. I have also served on the board for the Artist Guild of San Francisco and through our neighborhood association in the past.

My company also supports several organizations and in February 2009 I had donated time to paint nine murals with Ron Burn at the Humane Society Silicon Valley at their new facility in Milpitas, CA. It was an awesome opportunity to be a part of something so special for the pets in need

In providing time and energy for community work, it’s evident to see many of the same people who also volunteer their time to make a difference, it’s like a family of folks that are all on the same mindset. We all have our talents and qulaities, we are all the facets of the gem and we just “make it work!”.

A little bit of community giving back goes a loooong way.  If you live in a community or are involved with an organization, spend some time to help out.  A few hours a month can really help out your local non profit or charity.  The “feel good” factor is rewards enough, to say that you help out on an ongoing basis is not only giving, but soulfully fulfilling.

In my former life, I was a Web Technologist for Adobe Systems and and loved being in the fast paced, arty, yet technical environment of software and hardware.

That environment was great for a techno geek and I love technology. So when it came time to search for a web developer with advice and experience on the best way to move forward on building a new website that can accommodate our heavy graphics interface as well as a stronger eCommerce solution, I contacted my pal, Jerry Bates of Fitting Sites.

Often times, I am explaining the story behind an artistic creation, or the inspiration based on a piece of artwork, therefore I feel the need to explain my thought process of what went into the development of our new website.

I wanted help determining the style of site that would accommodate that person on the go, the traveler, the smartphone user, the iPad cruiser, the large screen viewer. We live in interesting times that requires more forward thinking and the new website needed to adapt to that mode.

We selected a technology refereed to as “responsive design”, which means that the site will adapt itself to your viewing platform and allow the users to see all of the images and pages that are much easier to view.

Another big component of the site that was that your shopping experience on our site be enjoyable, easy to navigate and fast and easy to order items as well as to see more of the products that we offer. We now have inventory control and quick “on the fly” editing capability. We also host many types of promotions and wanted the promotion codes that we announce to accommodate your shopping experience!

Most importantly the artwork .  The site is populated with many images of colorful graphical imagery of paintings that I create and this is why we decided to make the site with the clean interface. The artwork is the primary focus for the accents and furnishings.

She is ready to introduce her work to residents in the Orchard City. She will be part of art scene in historic downtown Campbell.

Sonya Paz, a Santa Clara-based artist, has partnered with Humane Society Silicon Valley (HSSV) to offer a unique event for those who love art and animals. “Art by the Pound” brings animal and art lovers under one roof, featuring animals available for adoption through HSSV and animal inspired artwork from Paz.
A percentage of these proceeds will go directly to the Humane Society Silicon Valley.

Over 30 faux felines designed by Silicon Valley artists, including Sonya Paz whos cats will be on display at various Los Gatos locales. The cats are the centerpiece of the Touch My HeART fundraising campaign for the town’s art and history museums. Sonya’s cat is “Cat-Itude”.
The theme of the event is “Hail Britannia” and it will include a performance by Beatles tribute group BBC.

Sonya Paz, a Santa Clara based artist and Tim Schaible of Petaluma have recently partnered with the Santa Clara based Humane Society Silicon Valley. The event will be held at the Sonya Paz Fine Art Gallery in Santa Clara on October 15th and 16th 2005.
The Wave Magazine also noted that our event is the 27th event in the “50 Ways to Leave Your Sofa” featured in the Volume 5, Issue 20 of the Wave.

Nothing gets my blood pumping more than stumbling on inspiration, especially when I get inspired by something simple like the color red!  A walk down the farmers market today brought something to my attention more so than other days.
