The Sausalito Art Festival chose San Jose based artist Sonya Paz to create the T-shirt image for the Sausalito Art Festival, which will take place from Saturday, Sept. 4, through Monday, Sept. 6. 2004.

Poster and T-Shirt artists chosen
SAUSALITO, California, June 23, 2004 — Soon after selecting Taiwanese born artist Michael Leu to create this year’s commemorative poster, the Sausalito Art Festival chose San Jose based artist Sonya Paz to create the T-shirt image for the SAF, which will take place from Saturday, Sept. 4, through Monday, Sept. 6th 2004.
“Sonya’s exuberant use of color and playful forms were inspirational” said SAF Executive Director Joseph Lillis. “We loved the optimistic view of the world reflected in her art, and felt sure her ideas would be perfect for the SAF.”
Picasso, Braque, Leger and Warhol inspire Paz’s work. She has a passion for Modern Art, Pop Art, Cubism and Surrealism. These influences can be seen in her work where traditional styles compete with wacky pop art images of the last 25 years. The original design to be used for the T-shirt is entitled “Splashing About in Sausalito,” and will be on view in her booth during the festival.
The SAF will kick off its annual volunteer sign-up campaign on Friday, July 16, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., at the weekly Jazz by the Bay event. This free weekly event produced by the Sausalito Parks and Recreation Department will be hosted by the Sausalito Chamber of Commerce and co-sponsored by Poggio in Gabrielson Park at the ferry terminal in downtown Sausalito.
The SAF is seeking 1,000 volunteers for a wide variety of positions including artist relations, garbage committee, beverage sales, the SAF Festival Store, transportation, security and more.
Volunteers who sign up at Jazz by the Bay will be entered into a raffle for commemorative clothing, souvenirs, works of art and the grand prize of two free tickets to the fourth annual Sausalito Art Festival at Sea, a luxury Caribbean Cruise.
