Bay Area Artist Chosen to Participate in Sausalito Art Festival and Feature Artwork

SONYA PAZ, BAY AREA ARTIST, SELECTED TO DESIGN
SAUSALITO ART FESTIVAL T-SHIRT

SAN JOSE, Calif., August 31, 2004 Sonya Paz, an artist who lives in San Jose, was commissioned by the Sausalito Art Festival to design this year’s T-shirt art design. The Festival, now in its 52nd year, will be held this Labor Day weekend, from September 4-6. Sonya created an original art design for the t-shirt and entitled it, “Splashing About in Sausalito.”

“Sonya’s exuberant use of color and playful forms were inspirational,” said Joseph Lillis, executive director for the Sausalito Art Festival. “We loved the optimistic view of the world reflected in her art, and felt sure that her ideas would be perfect for the Festival.”

Sonya has been creating her colorful acrylic cubistic style popish paintings for over five years. “This is the first year for me to exhibit at the Sausalito Art Festival,” said Sonya Paz. “Not only was it an honor to be selected as one of the juried artists, but to have my artwork featured on the T-shirt to represent the Festival is simply surreal.”

The Sausalito Art Festival, regarded as the #1 outdoor fine art festival in the United States, occurs in the beautiful art enclave of Sausalito north of the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco. More than 1,200 highly acclaimed artists worldwide apply for the 260 juried positions available. The Festival raises and donates more than $200,000 for local organizations and charities each year and is produced by the non-profit Sausalito Cultural Arts Foundation. The Festival is held at Marinship Park with the Sausalito Waterfront as the backdrop. For more information, visit the Festival website.
