Official Artist – Sonya Paz Paz returns for the second year as the Official Artist The San Jose Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon is proud to have Sonya Paz return for the second year as the Official Artist.
Paz’s unique artwork draws upon a myriad of influences including cubism, pop art, surrealism and modern art. With her signature bold colors and vibrant shapes, Paz successfully captures the electric energy of the Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon.
Born and raised in San Jose, Paz’s start in art began as a kindergartner when her parents took her to a Picasso exhibit. She was instantly drawn to his unusual style that seemed to leap off the canvas. Since that fateful day, Paz has emulated the unconventional method that artists like Picasso, Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein used in their approach to art.
“In school, I was told by instructors not to use this color with that color and was given many limitations. Ultimately, I ignored that direction and ended up doing what I felt was right in my gut. I went against the grain and that rebellious direction turned into a fun style that appealed to people,” Paz commented.
While her creative finesse is readily apparent, Paz has impressed the San Jose art community with her entrepreneurial skill by recently opening the Sonya Paz Fine Art Gallery. When she isn’t painting or developing her growing art business, Paz somehow finds the time to support the developing San Jose art community by participating in art marketing workshops and writing articles in publications such as “Art Calendar Magazine”, “Art Marketing News and “EBSQ Art.” “I am a firm believer in what goes around comes around. I want to share what I have learned so that other artists can flourish with confidence,” Paz said.
Paz’s exclusive original art piece, Rhythm, Racing, Rockin’ & Runnin’, will be on display at the San Jose McEnry Convention Center on October 12-13, 2007. Paz will be signing posters at the Elite Expo on Friday (1pm- 6pm) and Saturday (12pm- 5pm).
