Artist Sonya Paz has created wild new direction in the Pop Art…
…movement through her exuberant use of color and playful forms. Colors and shapes that explode off her canvas’ and you will find yourself reaching for more. Engaging yet simple, motivating and energized, colors that pulls you in like a vortex… all through her wildly creative and positive attitude.
Sonya’s paintings and vivid images are a reflection of her true native California roots and her passion and love for life. This passionate expression and creative attitude represent an optimistic view of her world. Her works are inspired by cubist style elements and the Pop Art movement. Seasoned by traveling the world to study art and its history, Sonya has a passion for Modern Art, Pop Art, Cubism, and Surrealism. These influences can be seen in her work, where traditional styles compete with modernized pop art imagery fancied over the past 30 years.
Over the past few years her art has been exhibited at a number of venues; these include wine labels for elSol Vineyards, Effusion Gallery and at ArtExpo International in New York City. She had been represented by many galleries in the United States. Her works were featired at the Effusion Gallery in South Beach Miami, PoP Gallery at the Walt Disney Resort in Orlando, Florida, Pop Gallery in Santa Fe, New Mexico, HoyPoloi Gallery in Chicago, HayStack Gallery in Cannon Beach, as well as the Chicago Ohare Airport and the Discover San Jose shops in the San Jose International Airport. You may also see her work amongst several restaurants, wineries, museum shops and wineries around the country.
Sonya continues to take her artwork to fun and rewarding levels. Amongst posters, wine labels and promotional venues, she has worked with many charities to raise funds to gain awareness for foundations as the National Breast Cancer Foundation along with the Humane Society of Silicon Valley (HSSV). She is an official supporter where her company donates generous portions of sales back to those organizations. Sonya’s artwork has been selected for the Palo Alto Festival of the, Sausalito Art Festival 2004, Livermore Wine Valley Harvest Festivals, San Ramon Art & Wind Festival Posters and the cover of the Vine Times for 2004 and 2005 and the City of Baldwin Park in Southern California 2005 summer music concert series and recently designed the poster for the San Jose Half Marathon in Oct 2006 and 2007.
The City of Campbell commissioned Sonya for a special Downtown Campbell project for the new “Shop with us” and “Dine with us” design campaign of new banners for all of the street lamps in the historic Campbell district in 2008. These banners are still featured, adorning the street in Downtown Campbell to this day!
An award give by the California Senate, 11th District “Artist of the Year” for 2009-2010 was also an honor. Sonya continues to help out in the community where she was located in where she was the Downtown Campbell Business Association (DCBA) President and contributed a lot of time to help out in various municipalities. In September 2012, her artwork was selected by the City of Campbell to best represent the “Orchard City Organics” agriculture project. Working in the community is key for Sonya, this is where her talent to bring people working together is essential, giving back to your community it the best gift you can give.
In 2015 Sonya started VinoPaint.com, a social painting company where she teaches people in large groups to paint and create. Being able to mentor and educate thousands of students art has been a truly rewarding experience. When Covid hit in 2020, she pivoted quickly to transition her live VinoPaint events into live virtual online creative events which has expanded her audience and is available to everybody regardless of location.
She and her husband and little dog SAMi moved out of the bay area in 2015 to the Central Valley in California where life was quieter and she can focus on painting and family. During this process she learned how to preserve food and perfected her recipe for candied picked jalapeno peppers. This was a yummy treat she only gave to friends and family on the holidays. However, the demand was so great she decided to package them and call her new food venture “Sonya’s Sweet & Spicy Specialties”. She has expanded her treats to nuts and sweet and spicy jams.
Over the years, many creative people would contact Sonya to ask her about how they can market their own art and learn to be confident selling their handmade arts and crafts, jewelry, textiles, paintings, ceramics and more. She would consult and help them as much as possible. She decided to help many more people with her podcast to help other creatives called the “Rockstar Mentor Podcast”, there are dozens of free episodes that can be accessed through her podcast. She strives to help others in their creative journey.
The new virtual learning format was so rewarding that Sonya took her name and reputation yet again to create her newest brand. In 2021 she developed Sonya Paz Creative, this brand completed the creative offerings that was necessary to fulfill all of her talents and decades of experience and to share her passions of art and teaching to folks on their own schedule. Evergreen content art classes and courses for anyone, step by step video courses that student can accomplish on their own. Sonya believes that art feeds the soul and can be therapeutic for many folks who suffer from anxiety or trauma, or to utilize the creative process to help people explore self-expression.
Sonya has established a solid private and corporate clientele. Her works of art have been acquired by many collectors throughout the United States and can be found in collections worldwide. She owns her own art studio which is accessible by appointment in California.
